Today’s featured post comes from community member, Cyndi, who linked up her post, “Lyrical Theology” to Fellowship Friday 81 last week.
I love music so I really enjoyed hearing a song I hadn’t heard before – especially a kid-friendly one!
Her post was very engaging. She had a different perspective about music that I felt was very informative. I often hear people lament about bad language or inappropriate subject matters in pop music. And we hear people complain about who the biggest celebrities are or what caused them to be celebrities in the first place. But Cyndi had a way of putting it that I think really gets at the root of the issue:
She explained that so much of our music emphasizes OUR experiences, OUR thoughts, OUR desires, OUR everything. Our music is focused on US not on God.
We want to talk about who WE are and not who GOD is.
There is a huge difference between a life focused on God and a life focused on self – this is evident in all aspects of living, including music. The song she shared explains so much about who God is in a way that everyone can grasp and understand.
