Today’s featured post comes from community member, Donna, who writes fiction and blogs about real issues. She linked up her post, “Life with Asperger’s | Why we don’t go to church” to Fellowship Friday 68 last week. Who is worthy of inclusion in church fellowship?
Donna’s post covers how Asperger’s and Autism can affect someone’s ability to be part of the social aspect of church-going. Fellowship is important for Christians. It is where can experience iron-sharpening-iron and experience God’s love.
Without some intentional thought around inclusion, those who suffer from Asperger’s, Autism, and Sensory Processing Disorder can be left out, mistreated or even bullied at church. The social mores can be confusing. And all of this can turn a truth-seeker away from God.
What thought should we ALL be giving toward inclusion? Even if neither you nor anyone in your family is having to work through growing into life along the spectrum, what are we teaching the next generation about the importance of carrying for all of God’s flock?
This was a great and thought-provoking post! As we become more aware of the varying ways that individuals are able to interact with the world, we should be intentional about inclusion in the church body. Not because its’ easy but because we are called to go back for even the “1 out of the 99”.
Let me know if her post encouraged you the way it did me.
