When it comes to blogging, “behind the scenes” work can easily take over your work time. There are emails to respond to, tweets to post, photos to pin, and search engine optimization updates to run. Then there is the advertisements for the side bar, comments to respond to, and blog friends to catch up with. If you have extra time, you might read an eBook to learn more about blogging or join a twitter chat.
As a blogger, there is a lot to do, and you wear many hats. But the one hat that must always be worn is that of “writer.”
Without content, you don’t have a blog.
At the core of blogging, the only thing you have to do to succeed is write compelling and engaging blog posts on a consistent basis. That’s it!
Like you, blogging is a part of my life – a life where I’m also a child of God, wife to the man of my prayers, and mommy to a toddler and another gift due any day now. This means I have more than just blogging tasks that must fit into my day. Therefore, I must prioritize, especially when life gets busy, and the longer I blog the more I accept that content is king.
No blogger does it all.
At least we don’t do it all every day or in every season.
If you’re in a hard season where all you can do is keep your head above water, then take some time to prioritize. If taking a blogging break isn’t in the cards, perhaps you should let go of social media promotion of each post, stop linking up to every linky party available for a season, or turn on your out of office for your email for a bit.
If content is king, what can you do to free up your time to ensure you continue to produce good, quality content for your blog?
As a fellow mommy blogger, I know it’s hard to trust the Lord with your stats. If you don’t promote your posts who will? If you don’t respond to those comments, how will you build a loyal following? If you don’t do the SEO research, how will you show up on the front page of the search engines?
Can I submit a different question?
If you don’t write for your blog, who will?
You can’t do any of the above without first having something to promote, comment on, or optimize! So today, give yourself a break! Take a deep breath and just write. If you’re overwhelmed, let all the other tasks go! They will be there tomorrow. Today, do what you love most about blogging, what made you start in the first place – write.
You are writer!
Now go write…
